Who knew?? …the Roadrunner is an incredible bird. The only thing I knew about Roadrunners, they make a meep sound which we interpret as a beep and they run circles around that wiley, Wile E. Coyote! Claiming Tax Deductions for START-UP COSTS for a New Business
“Costs incurred during the START-UP PHASE of a business are generally deductible over a 15 year period” (i.e., each

WHAT IS THE “SPECIAL DEDUCTION” FOR 2011?
Any taxpayer who begins operation of a new business in 2011, may deduct ALL start-up costs (up to $5,000 maximum)
on their 2011 tax returns — no need to spread the deduction over a 15 year period. [ IRC Sec 195(b) ]
EX: $5,000 in Start-Up Cost deductions, for a person in a 28% tax bracket, would generate a $1,400 tax Refund.
If Start-Up Cost deductions exceed the amount of money earned this year in the home-based business itself, most or all
of the additional deductions may be applied against any other source of income such as a W-2 job, which could possibly
even drop the taxpayer into a lower tax bracket.
This one-time write-off provision in the tax law is valid only during 2011, and therefore will set to expire permanently at
midnight, December 31, 2011. Even IF Congress reinstates this provision in 2012, a business begun after Jan. 1, 2012
will not be able to claim those deductions until April 2013 – when 2012 Tax Returns are filed.
Not activating a new home-based business by December 31, 2011, will delay tax-deductions for Start-Up Costs
by at least 15 months.
WHAT ARE “START-UP COSTS?”
The term includes business related costs you incur prior to actually beginning to offer goods or services for sale i.e.,
the costs of getting ready to open your business. They are generally the same types of expenses that will be called
“business operating costs” once you are actually operating a business. [ IRC Sec 195(c)(1)(B) ]
Q: When does the start-up period begin?
A: When you begin thinking about starting a business.
Q: What are some examples of tax-deductible “start-up costs?” [ IRC Sec 195(c)(1)(A) ]
A: Seminars, Workshops, Courses and Books on how to run the business
Investigating or Researching one or more business opportunities
Travel for meetings, conventions or interviews or to obtain education from experts
Telephone and cellular phone costs related to new business start-up
Office supplies and some business tools (briefcase, iPad, business cards, etc.)
DOES NOT INCLUDE vehicles, furniture, computers and other depreciable assets [ IRC Sec 167(a) ]
Caveat: Money spent qualifying to begin a certain type of business, general are not deductible. This includes getting a
degree, obtaining a license to practice (doctors, real estate…), etc.
The IRS “default setting” for start-up expenses is to deem that the taxpayer made a decision to amortize the amounts over
a 15 year period. [ Reg Sec 1.195-1T(b) ]
To keep that from happening, and claim your seductions immediately, you should
take 2 actions: [ Reg Sec 1.195-1T(b) ]
1. Claim your Start-Up Expenses on IRS Form 4562 (“Depreciation and Amortization”)
2. Attach an “election statement” to your tax return, stating specifically that you wish to claim all (or the first
$5,000) of your Start-Up Expenses in 2011, “the year in which your business became active.”
By the way, since Start-Up Expenses are deductible in the year in which the business begins active operation, if the
business you are investigating never gets off the ground, you will not get any deductions. [ IRC Sec. 165 ]

If it’s too good to be true……..
Everyone will tell you “it probably isn’t” or “run like hell from it”…..
…..but why can’t it be TRUE?
…..does everything have to be generalized?
…..unfounded assumptions can and probably will get you in trouble.
But let’s face it; usually if it is too good to be true then it probably isn’t true.
“Wait Bob”…….. isn’t it or is it?
Well I do not know and neither do you until you get all the facts, but I found out through the years that most people just look at something and “Judge it by the Cover” and on many occasions I have been just as guilty of this just like the next guy…….
…….can you really know what’s in one’s heart just by their outer appearance?
Of course not, but aren’t we all guilty of that far more then we should be?
I know a person that is very well off monetarily but you would never know it by the way he carries himself on a daily basis or by his outward appearance, but he is one of the most generous persons I know…..
……he has an enormous HEART, giving and doing so without wanting recognition. I believe he gives because he wants to and not because he feels obligated too.
Aha!…..He is too Good to be True……but he is very True!
So is “Judging a Book by the Cover” the right thing to do?
How often do we tell our kids that true beauty is from the inside, yet we fall into
the trap of outward appearances? Television and magazines peddle their products to us and claim that they will make us look more attractive……oh and let’s not forget…… they will make us look younger.
Yet when we are approached with the idea of taking something that’s proven which
could aid the function of our inner workings….we pooh-pooh it because it has
nothing to do with our Cover…..
……how hypocritical are we?
My Gosh!!!!!! Is it too good to be true and yet it is!
Load your gun before you point and shoot. Get the Facts
And remember, every time you point a figure at someone…three figures are always
pointing back at you.

I once presented a business opportunity to a man, who had a wife and a few children, and he originally said to me that he wanted to do something to make his family proud of him and to give them a better life. ……..but after the presentation he realized he had to get out of his comfort zone and actually said to me “I’m a dirt bag, I have always been a dirt bag, so just leave me here in my reclining chair with a can of beer and the TV remote.”
WOW….that blew me away!
I respected him for knowing who he thought he was, but what was he teaching those around him, especially his children…..
..…for not actually knowing what he saw!
What a shame to have so little Conviction in one’s self.
Your Vision is highly affected by your Conviction. It affects whether we see problems as insurmountable obstacles or as opportunities.
Do you have the vision to see though a problem and work toward a solution? Or do you believe in Murphy’s Law, if something bad is going
to happen it will happen to me?
Fear and lack of Conviction is the opposite of having “confidence” in what you do.
Your Attitude….creates your Altitude…….how high do you want to Soar?
It is far better to Soar with Eagles…
……..then flock with the turkeys!

Who knew??

Tippy is a touch “son-of-a-gun”, or at least I thought she

Hmmm….I think he is more wiley than the coyote, but we all
know that from the cartoon.
Each and every day we are all in the race of Life
and how many times do we stop or just flat out quit……even at times when we
can see the finish line, but do not believe we have enough in us to finish what
we started?
Curious, I wanted to know about this bird that doesn’t
really fly or act like a bird…
…..yet has the Tenacity
to get the task completed!
They are part of the Cuckoo family and seem to be tough
creatures. They eat spiders, scorpions, small prey and believe it or
not……snakes!
Yes, even rattlesnakes. The roadrunner kills the rattlesnake
and/or other snakes by grabbing it in its mouth and beating it against a rock.
Sometimes another roadrunner will help out…….Teamwork.
I wonder how many
times if we only had asked for a little help we could have finished the race?
My research about the Roadrunner brought me to the conclusion
that this is one amazing bird even if they cannot fly to great heights……they
bring the task at hand to a successful finish!
The Roadrunner shows us that it does not matter your size,
your age, your position in life………
……if you are Determined, you can accomplish anything you desire by:
……not listening to
naysayers,
……realizing no hurdle is too tall,
…..and no setback
will keep you down.
Be like the Roadrunner pointing your head in the right
direction…
….staying parallel to the road you have chosen, and
….run like hell toward your Goals!
Even if you have a Wile E. Coyote chasing you……
……..just “beep” at it and keep on going.
Like the Roadrunner……..you will SUCCEED!!!!
